Urbanization in the large city of Rotterdam is therefore increasing. This is partly reflected in the extreme growth of the city as a result of population growth and the growing number of relocations to the city. A consequence of the urbanization is that there is less and less space for greenery. This problem is seen as an opportunity for this research to green the quays in Rotterdam. (CBS, 2019)

The map shows where the dikes in Rotterdam around the Maas still need to be raised for the year 2100. Due to the sea level rise, the dyke around the Merwe-Vierhaven is 25 centimeters too low. Now the question is; Should we continue to fight against it and keep raising the dike? Or are we forced to move with the water?

Again:" The sea level is rising faster than we thought. The continuous raising of the dikes makes the natural formation of silt impossible, so that our delta cannot cope with the advancing sea. The problem is getting bigger because the polders behind the dikes are getting lower and lower. (Schuttenhelm, 2019) "

There is also little place for people to escape the city for a while. A place where there is space to meet people and where people can work together for a brighter future. The Merwe four ports is a potential area for this meeting place, but at the moment it is not yet attractive to walk or cycle there, or have your lunch during the break. The connection between the hard quays and the water in the harbor even feels like a blockage. You cannot easily cross the road and there is no atmosphere.
